Frequently Ask Questions:

Q. How do I move the registration from one machine to another?
A.
Contact support for detailed instructions on how to move or transfer your registration.

Q. Test login fails. I know I have the correct username and password.
A.

Q. I am getting "
Error 91 : Object variable or With block variable not set" errors.
A.
If you have a firewall enabled, check that AuctionSleuth is allowed to access the Internet.

Q. I am getting search results but getting no Audio, Popup or email alarms.
A.
Make sure you have both the Master alarm (on the Setup/alarms window) and the alarm enabled for the individual search.

Q. I am having problems with search results not updating, getting an error message "No response from eBay server" or having signin problems.
A. Here are some things to check....
   * Make sure you have the latest version of AuctionSleuth.
   * The latest versions of AuctionSleuth use a different method to grab data from eBay searches. It's more dependent on Internet Explorer being up to date and Internet Explorer setup.
   * Make sure you have all the updates for IE. The following url should get you all the updates for your system....

   http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
      http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Here's how you setup Internet Explorer....
   In INTERNET EXPLORER 6.X:
   1. From the toolbar at the top of IE 6, select TOOLS and INTERNET OPTIONS.
   2. Under the GENERAL tab select the Temporary Internet Files Section and then SETTINGS.
   3. On the SETTINGS page you need to select the EVERY VISIT TO THE PAGE radio button.
   4. Select OK.
   5. Under the PRIVACY Tab select the advanced button.
   6. Check the Override Automatic Cookie Handling and Accept both First and Third party cookies.
   7. Check the "Always allow session cookies" box.
   8. Select OK.

Q. How do I search ALL categories without specifying a category number? Also I'd like to NOT restrict the price to a min/max value.
A. For a wide open search, specify category 0 and a price range minimum of .01 and maximum of $999,999.

Q. When I try to download the latest version of AuctionSleuth using the Update feature, I get an error. Why?
A.
The version number was removed from the file name starting with ver 1.8.8. Download the file directly from the AuctionSleuth website.

Q. The time displayed in the Search results window is not the correct time of day. Why is that?

A.
The time displayed is your system clock. If its wrong, then you need to set your clock.

Q. I just changed computers and reinstalled AuctionSleuth. When I use the old registration number it says it isn't correct.
A.
The AuctionSleuth registration number is unique for every user's installation. If you are a registered user, just send me an email with the new Software Number from your new system, and I will send you another registration number.

Q. Occasionally I see a status message "No response from eBay server". What does  that mean?
A.
Sometimes this occurs when Internet response time is very slow or an auction site is having problems. If it persists, just disable searches to that site for a few hours and try again later.

Q. AuctionSleuth found a match. When I looked at the item on the eBay page, it was not the same price, it was higher. Why?
A
. Sometimes the actual prices aren't updated as quickly as the actual item page.

Q. Are the words used in the search criteria case sensitive?
A.
No. The search criteria words and the auction title words are all converted to uppercase before match testing.

Q. I have the buy it now searches updating every 5 minutes. I just got a buy it now hit and when I looked the item was sold 10 minutes ago. What's with that?
A.
I have seen this as well. One way I can explain it is that some eBay servers aren't updated as fast as others. If you happen to be on a slower server you might miss an item. The server updates are dynamic and the roles might be switched on the next scan though. Make sure you have your browser settings setup correctly. See the help files for details (Getting Started/Browser Setup).

Q. My snipe bids aren't being placed correctly. Can you help?
A.
If you have a firewall up, that disables outbound messages, it's possible the firewall is preventing the snipe bids. Change the configuration of the firewall software to allow outbound messages from AuctionSleuth.

Q. I am receiving an error message "ReadSnipeData - Input past end of file". What should I do?
A. Your snipe data file got corrupted somehow. Bring up the Snipe window and click "Delete All". That will delete the snipe data file.

Q. My snipe bid should have won, the snipe bid was larger than the winning bid. Suggestions?
A. Snipe bids problems are usually because your system clock is not correct, use the auto time setting feature (Setup/Time) and make sure the time server is a good one by hitting the "Update Now" button. A good time set will indicate "Your system clock was set...".  Also, check that your User Name is correct and re-enter your Password to make sure it is correct. Check that your time offset is correct for your time zone (Setup/Misc window). AuctionSleuth now uses eBay's time to set your system clock.

Q. I keep getting the message "No minimum bid found. Item may be closed. Check the item closely and try again" for all items, even if they aren't closed. What's wrong?
A. If you are running Internet Explorer version 5, upgrade to version 6.

Q. Search results don't seem to be getting updated or system clock not getting updated, why?
A. Make sure you have the Internet Explorer option set to load new pages "Every visit to the page". More info on setting up Internet Explorer is located in the AuctionSleuth help files.

Q. If I take my laptop to a different time zone, will AuctionSleuth still snipe a bid for me?
A.
Yes...BUT you should set your laptop's system clock to the time at your destination and update the time offsets. If you don't, AuctionSleuth will try to place the snipe at the old time zone's time. That will work too, if you are aware of the time change and have your laptop connect at the correct time.
